SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- There was a special tribute on Friday for one of our ABC7 News reporters.

Anchor and reporter Carolyn Tyler was named veteran journalist of the year by the Bay Area Black Journalists Association.

Tyler shared a story about how she got interested in journalism during a luncheon in her honor.

She was still in college when she met the first black, female anchor in Denver, Colorado who asked her one question. '"You do know how to speak properly, how about your writing?' I said, 'Well I was selected as most likely to succeed in high school, I think I know how to write," Tyler said.

She has been working here at ABC7 News since 1986, more than 28 years.

She has received numerous awards during her distinguished career including a prestigious Peabody award.
