NAPA, Calif. - The Napa Police Department is warning residents about reports of FEMA impersonators. In a Facebook post, Napa Police said they have received numerous calls from concerned citizens.
The Napa County District Attorney's office said FEMA agents are checking with people who have filed claims with the agency. They are only conducting visual inspections. Each FEMA agent can be identified with official badges and ID. Ask any agent for this identification. If the person cannot show it, ask them to leave and file a report with the FTC.
Police warn that the FEMA agents are not asking for any personal information like bank accounts or social security numbers. Anyone who is asking for this type of information is not a representative of FEMA.
In addition to stopping by homes that have already filed claims, FEMA agents are checking in with homeowners who have damage, but have not yet filed claims. In these cases, agents are only marking down addresses and visible damage.
If you received a FEMA check, but have not filed any claim, please report it online to the FTC.
