ALAMEDA, Calif. - A showdown vote could shut down a beloved elementary school in Alameda. One soil analysis found that the ground beneath Lum Elementary School could liquefy in a big earthquake and the school could collapse.

Other engineering reports dispute those findings.

School board members want to close the school June 8 after school is out for the year. Many families are fighting the move, claiming the evidence is not strong enough to justify moving their children to other schools.
