The Nos. 3 and 4 lanes were closed at about noon, shortly after the big rig hit the Marina Boulevard overpass, the CHP reported.
The southbound Interstate 880 off-ramp to Marina Boulevard and the No. 2 lane of the overpass have also been closed, California Department of Transportation spokesman Mike Lopez said.
A Caltrans team of senior engineers is en route to the scene to determine if the overpass was damaged in the accident, Lopez said.
A Sig-alert was issued at about 12:10 p.m., and big rigs have been authorized to use Interstate Highway 880 during the closure.
Lanes are scheduled to reopen at about 4 p.m., Lopez said, but the closure might be extended if the damage is extensive.
