It's called a Magnificent Frigatebird and it is extremely rare for one to be seen in California. Experts think it was blown to Sonoma county by hurricane force winds in the Pacific.
The juvenile male may have traveled hundreds or even thousands of miles from his breeding grounds. He stayed for almost a month at the International Bird Rescue Center in Cordelia.
The bird was released on Catalina Island because of its warmer climate.
