The city of San Rafael is offering a unique class for those interested in learning about the inner workings of urban development.

The Planning Academy is a six-week course that will focus on being a citizen planner, improving proposed development in individual neighborhoods and what San Rafael is doing to be a better place to live and work in.

By the end of the course, students will have learned about design, traffic and housing, the history of planning in San Rafael, what the city is doing to address climate change and how to advocate for changes.

The classes will be held every Wednesday beginning Feb. 27 and running through March 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. The last class and graduation will be held April 3 at 7 p.m.

The Planning Academy will be held in the council chambers of City Hall. There is a $25 fee to cover the cost of class materials. To register, call 485-3333 or go to
