State senate president Don Perata removed Palo Alto Democrat Joe Simitian as chair of the Environmental Policy Committee.
This comes after what one senator described as a "raucous" budget committee hearing last night.
Perata and Simitian aren't commenting, but State Senator Darrell Steinberg says Simitian disagreed with others in the meeting about how to go about cutting $500 million in education funding.
