Jackie Speier opens campaign office

BURLINGAME, Calif.

Democrat, Jackie Speier, opened her headquarters in Burlingame.

She's running against four other candidates for the seat that was left vacant when Tom Lantos died, last month.

Speier is trying to energize supporters ahead of the special election, scheduled for April 8th. "It's all about doing the drudge work. It's all about making the phone calls, licking the stamps, convincing people day in and day out that this is an important election," said Speier.

If one of the five candidates fails win a majority in April, a runoff will be held on June 3, 2008. The others who qualified for the ballot are Republicans Greg Conlon and Michael Mahoney, Democrat Michelle McMurry, and the Green Party's Barry Hermanson.
