At least two vehicles were involved in the collision just before 7 p.m., CHP Officer Marc Johnston said.
A Sig-alert was issued around 7:40 p.m., although no lanes were blocked at that time, Johnston said. Traffic slowed due to drivers attempting to see the scene of the accident.
One individual fled the scene but was quickly tracked down by CHP officers and arrested, according to Johnston. As many as three people may have been trapped in one of the vehicles involved in the accident, he said.
Two helicopters were used to transport accident victims, including one that landed on the highway around 7:50 p.m., Johnston said. The lanes were clear for traffic again by 8:05 p.m.
