Bay Area war protest events

SAN FRANCISCO

  • 12 p.m.: MoveOn.org holds a candlelight vigil; Market and Powell Streets.
  • 4:30 p.m.: Nudes4Peace will gather in United Nations Plaza and walk to Civic Center Plaza.
  • 5 p.m.: The ANSWER Coalition is planning a march and rally to end the war at the Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco.
  • 6 p.m.: Grace Cathedral marks the five-year anniversary of the start of the Iraq war with a peace vigil.
  • A group known as Direct Action to Stop the War will stage protests at various government buildings and "war-profiteering corporations" in downtown San Francisco throughout the day.

    SOUTH BAY

  • 4 p.m.: The San Jose Peace and Justice Center is holding a Speak-Out to End the War in front of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library in downtown San Jose.

    PENINSULA

  • 12 p.m.: The Peninsula Peace and Justice Center will hold a "human billboard" vigil and offer leaflets to passersby during the lunch hour in downtown Palo Alto at University Avenue and Emerson Street.
  • 7 p.m.: MoveOn.org holds a candlelight vigil; Corner of El Camino Real and Jefferson Ave., Redwood City.

    BERKELEY

  • 11:30 am: Activists are planning a daylong protest outside the Marine Corps recruiting station at 64 Shattuck Square.

    OAKLAND
    6 p.m.: MoveOn.org holds a candlelight vigil to mark the five-year anniversary of the start of the Iraq war; corner of Broadway and W. MacArthur Blvd..

    SANTA CRUZ

  • 7 p.m.: Groups will meet at the town clock, the corner of Water Street and Pacific Avenue, to commemorate and mourn. There will be music, stories and community.
