Deputy's car catches fire after chase

NOVATO, CA

Officers reported the pursuit at 12:59 a.m. on southbound U.S. Highway 101 just north of Miller Creek Road south of Novato, CHP Officer Marc Johnston said.

Just after 1 a.m., the vehicle involved in the pursuit and a sheriff's deputy crashed, according to Johnston.

No one was injured but the deputy's car caught fire, Johnston said.

The man driving the vehicle involved in the pursuit was arrested for failing to yield, according to Johnston. Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident as well, Johnston said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
