San Jose police K-9 Officer Glen Albin saw the vehicle at Bascom Avenue and state Highway 85 a short time later and alerted other authorities. He began to follow the car, which sped east on Highway 85.

The suspects drove north on Interstate Highway 280, at which point California Highway Patrol officers joined the chase, Sullivan said.

Almost an hour later the car ran out of gas and stopped at Hickey Drive and Highway 280 in South San Francisco.
