Driver killed in spectacular Berkeley crash

BERKELEY, CA

Police responded to a report of a man in a car with a hose running from his tailpipe into his car. As an officer approached him, he drove off. Police followed, but backed off when the man began driving erratically. A short time later, he crashed along the Alameda.

"This is one of the most dramatic collision scenes that we have seen in some time. There are three parked cars that are completely totaled and the driver and his vehicle are upside-down. So it appears the car may have gone airborne before it landed on the top," said Sgt. Mary Kismuss, Berkeley police department.

Police say the driver was running red lights at an estimated speed of 80 miles-an-hour. The victim's identity has not yet been released.
