The Highway Patrol is looking for a motorcyclist involved in a hit and run accident that sent a Berkeley bicyclist to the hospital. The collision followed a high speed chase late last night.

At 11:20 pm Sunday night a motorcyclist hit a bicyclist at 90 mph and then he fled. A single CHP had been chasing the suspect, but said its officers called off the pursuit when the motorcyclist hit city streets.

The 50-year-old bicyclist suffered major injuries and remains in surgery at this time. The CHP first encountered the suspect going 90 mph on westbound I-80 in Richmond. The pursuit was in excess of 110 mph, the suspect exited at Ashby Avenue blew through a red light at San Pablo Avenue and moments later crashed into the bicyclist. There was no license plate on the motorcycle and the suspect's description was not given.
