ATM information stolen at gas station

SAN JOSE, CA

A San Jose couple said they rarely use their ATM card - that is why they were able to tell that their information was probably stolen while filling up their tank at the ARCO station on Camden Avenue in San Jose.

The couple noticed about $1,500 taken out of their bank account over the holiday weekend. Police say these thieves are placing false fronts over the ATM card reader slots that record the card's information.

This latest scam is the third in the South Bay since March. More then 200 people had money withdrawn from their account after shopping at Lunardis supermarket in Los Gatos - the Secret Service is now investigating that case. Before that, 80 people were victimized at an AM/PM in Los Altos.

At the Arco station in San Jose, seven recent customers have come forward claiming losses of about $4,200 combined.

If you use your ATM card make sure to check your statements frequently.

San Jose police are expecting more victims to come forward.
