Person struck by train in Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, CA

Train No. 231 struck the trespasser just before 8:30 a.m., spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, and the extent of injuries was not immediately available, according to Bartholomew.

It was unknown how fast the train was traveling when the victim was struck. The maximum speed allowed for a train is 79 mph, but it was unlikely the train was traveling at such a high rate of speed while pulling into the station, Bartholomew said.

The train that struck the victim stopped for about 30 minutes before resuming service, according to Bartholomew.

All northbound trains were expected to be delayed until about 10:30 a.m., Bartholomew said.
