Novato house fire displaces seven people

NOVATO, CA

District spokeswoman Sandy Wargo said the fire was reported at 8:53 a.m. and was contained at 9:21 a.m.

Novato police Officer Kandace Millhouse was the first on the scene and she quickly evacuated the home's three residents, Wargo said.

PG&E crews secured a live wire to the home that had fallen across Hill Road from a power pole, and shut off the gas supply to the house, Wargo said.

Six residents of the home and one from an adjoining cottage were displaced, and two dogs and several kittens were rescued, Wargo said.

Five engines responded to the blaze. There were no injuries and damage is estimated at $250,000, including damage to two cars in or near a carport, Wargo said.
