Ban on text messaging while driving in the works

SACRAMENTO, CA It is an off-shoot of the ban on hand-held cell phone use while driving. That law goes into effect in California next month. State Senator Joe Simitian overlooked text messaging in the original version of the bill. Simitian is now amending the measure and hopes to get the legislature's approval and a signature from the governor. If he does, the text messaging ban would go into effect Jan. 1.
