GG bus and ferry fares go up 5 percent

SAN FRANCISCO

The fare increases are part of a five-year transit fare increase program that was approved by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District's Board of Directors in March 2006. The fares will increase annually through July 1, 2010.

Fares for local bus travel within Marin County are not increasing.

Adult cash bus fares are rising between 15 and 40 cents depending on origin and destination. Fares between Petaluma and San Francisco and between Santa Rosa and San Francisco are increasing 40 cents, for example.

Fares to and from Sausalito, Mill Valley and Tiburon and San Francisco and from Marin County to and from the East Bay and within the East Bay are increasing 15 cents. Local fares within Sonoma County and within San Francisco also are increasing 15 cents.

Cash fares for youths 6 to age 18 and for seniors and persons with disabilities remain half of the adult cash fares.

Fares on Golden Gate Ferry are increasing between 15 and 35 cents depending on the fare payment category. Adult one-way cash fares on the Larkspur and Sausalito ferries are increasing 35 cents. Fares for youths 6-18 years old, seniors and riders with disabilities are rising 15 cents.

AT&T Park fares remain $7.50 one way.
