New CHP cadets sworn in

SACRAMENTO, CA

The cadets were sworn in Friday in west Sacramentoand proudly received their badges as family members watched.

A total of 108 people graduated after completeing 12 weeks of training.

One new officer is the great-grandson of a cadet who graduated from the academy 78 years ago. Gregory McCrea said he is honored to carry on the family tradition, but it is hard work, he admitted.

"It was a challenge for both me, my dad and my grandfather. It's great to go through this one time and one time only and not have to come back," McCrea said. "And it's good to have a tradition in the family.

The CHP is hiring on a continual basis. It takes anywhere from six months to one year to become an officer.
