Man killed after getting run over twice

SANTA ROSA, CA

Monty McClane, 69, was walking east on Sebastopol Road near McMinn Avenue around 9:40 a.m. when he was knocked down and run over by a 2006 F-250 pickup as it backed out of a driveway of the Gardeners' Aid store at 1050 Sebastopol Road, CHP Officer Barbara Upham said.

The pickup driver, 67-year-old Gerald Day of Santa Rosa, didn't hear passersby calling to him and didn't realize he had run over someone, Upham said.

He ran over McClane again when he pulled forward in the driveway, Upham said.

McClane suffered blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen. He was taken to Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m., Upham said.

Day was not cited and there is no indication that either he or McClane were under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Upham said.

The Sonoma County coroner's office said an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
