SFO named best North American airport

SAN FRANCISCO

Skytrax conducts the World Airport Survey each year, gathering more than 8.2 million questionnaires completed by passengers around the world.

"With so much transition going on in the airline industry, now more than ever it's imperative for us to provide our customers with the best experience while they are at the airport," John L. Martin, director of San Francisco International Airport, said in a prepared statement. "We are pleased to be recognized for our efforts."

In the past year, the airport has launched several new initiatives, including the "You Are Hear" summertime music series, free holiday gift-wrapping, airport ambassadors and business-related amenities.

Hong Kong International Airport won the award for Best Airport in the world, while Munich International Airport was named Best Airport in Europe.

In the North American category, Vancouver came in second and Dallas-Fort Worth was rated as the third-best airport.
