Oakland police took a man into custody overnight, following a standoff that caused the evacuation of several homes around East 15th street.

Authorities were able to capture the suspect by distracting him with flash grenades. The man had barricaded himself in a closet after breaking into a house on East 15th street.

Several families living inside hid throughout the building during the standoff. The whole thing started before midnight, when police chased the suspect after a dispute with another man on the street.

Police used a taser to try and subdue him, but it didn't work. That's when he climbed to the roof of the house and broke in through a window.

SWAT teams had to evacuate some neighbors before they moved in. None of the residents nor the suspect was injured in the incident.
