Two men are in custody Thursday at the San Mateo county jail -- on suspicion of trying to steal bronze gates from a mausoleum in Colma on Monday.

One of the suspects has been identified as 31-year old Richard Patino. The other is 29-year old Ruben Lopez. Both men are from Union City.

There's been an increase in metal thefts lately at cemeteries in Colma. Police have even held a meeting with employees of several cemeteries about the problem.

"Our workers here are very diligent too we try to keep an eye on people that come here, to make sure that that sort of crime does not happen" Margaret Hambrick, Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Police in Union City are looking into whether these suspects are connected to the theft of ten bronze urns. At least one contained human remains. They were stolen from the chapel of the chimes cemetery on Sunday.
