Takeover robbery at Denny's

DALY CITY, CA

Three suspects with their faces covered wearing hooded sweatshirts entered the restaurant in the Serramonte Shopping Center on Serramonte Boulevard at about 6:45 a.m., police said.

The suspects demanded employees and customers lie on the floor, and one of the suspects took money from a register and from an employee. The suspect also kicked an employee, police said.

At least one suspect was armed with a silver automatic handgun, according to police. The suspects have been described only as white or Hispanic males.

A general manager at the restaurant who asked to remain anonymous said no one was injured during the robbery and only one customer was inside when the suspects entered. The restaurant, open 24 hours a day, is surrounded by businesses and family residences, she said. Robberies such as this morning's are uncommon, the general manager said.

The suspects, who fled the restaurant on foot, may have parked their vehicle on southbound Interstate Highway 280 near the state Highway 1 interchange before the Serramonte Boulevard offramp, police said.

Anyone who saw a vehicle or suspicious activity in the area around 7 a.m. is asked to contact police at (650) 991-8147.
