According to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, Saturnino Manganaan pleaded guilty on Friday in San Francisco Superior Court to two felony counts and admitted violating his probation for felony child abuse.
District Attorney Kamala Harris has made prosecuting domestic abuse cases a priority in her administration and said in a statement that will continue.
"Stalking and making threats are crimes that we take very seriously," Harris said.
Manganaan, 41, was arrested May 22 near Sixth and Harrison streets in the city's South of Market district, after a police chase over several blocks, according to prosecutors. Officers had been at his estranged wife's home investigating threats made to her life.
According to prosecutors, Manganaan's wife tried to leave the relationship and had a restraining order against Manganaan when he threatened over the phone to throw acid in her face and kill her.
Manganaan is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 22.
According to the district attorney's office, California was the first U.S. state to enact a stalking statute, in 1990. Now all 50 states have similar statutes.
