Gas main break in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA

At about 10:45 a.m., a contractor renovating a building at 88 Bush St. struck and damaged a 1.25-inch gas line, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokesman Brian Swanson said.

Utility crews had the leak capped around 11:30 a.m. and repairs were expected to be completed by 12:30 p.m.

Swanson said the line only served the building being renovated.

The San Jose Fire Department issued a voluntary evacuation order for people in nearby buildings, but they have since been allowed to return, a fire dispatcher said.
