Rock N' Roll Marathon seeks volunteers

SAN JOSE, CA

City officials say 15,000 runners will wind through the downtown area on the 13.1-mile course. Volunteers will receive a race crew T-shirt, a goodie bag, and a free ticket to the post-race concert featuring Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

"The San Jose Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon continues to be a signature event for San Jose," Mayor Chuck Reed said in a statement. Reed said that last year, 63,000 runners and spectators from all over the country participated.

"We encourage individuals, organizations and businesses to consider volunteering and helping make this a top event on the national racing circuit," he said.

The run will feature live bands along the course, local high school cheerleaders and water stations for runners and walkers. The weekend will include a health and fitness expo, which will take place at the McEnery Convention Center the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 3 and all day on Saturday, Oct. 4.

The race begins at 5 a.m. on Oct. 5 at W. Santa Clara Street and Almaden Boulevard.

"There is a spot for everyone," event general manager Elizabeth O'Brien said. "We would love for volunteers to be part of a fun, energy-packed event that's remembered for years."
