Police arrest hit-and-run suspect

SAN JOSE, CA

The accident happened on Sunday morning, when an SUV drove onto the sidewalk at Hillview Park, near the Reid Hillview Airport in East San Jose.

San Jose police confirmed that it started as an argument with two people. The suspect, who was driving a white Chevy Suburban, drove onto the sidewalk and struck three men who were walking on the sidewalk while a soccer game was taking place nearby. One man died at the scene and one is in critical condition at the hospital.

"We're trying to determine whether or not this is a case involving a homicide or if this was a case where the suspect ran over these people and fled the scene, which is now a hit-and-run," says Enrique Garcia of the San Jose Police Department.

Police say one SUV was following the other and the suspect then got out of his car and argued. Witnesses say they heard him talking about killing someone and then he went down the street and hit the people on the sidewalk. Police are still not sure whether they are investigating the story as a homicide.
