Police said they received a call at 9:38 a.m. from a woman reporting her aunt had been stabbed. Another call confirmed a man in the area had a knife and police said children could be heard screaming in the background of the call.
When officers arrived to the home in the 1300 block of West Avenue, they determined Miguel Angel Ayala Farias had been arguing with his 30-year-old girlfriend when he began stabbing her in the face and chest, police said.
According to police, Farias then attacked the woman's mother, 53-year-old Eva Jaimes Calvillo, who collapsed while trying to flee and died inside the home.
Farias allegedly continued to try to attack his girlfriend, but she had locked herself and her child inside a room of the home.
Police said the officers arrived as Farias was stabbing himself outside the residence. He died on the sidewalk of South Avenue near the home. The girlfriend was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive her injuries.
