BART riders to get free coffee vouchers

BART employees and Bay Area Free Trade Coalition volunteers will hand out vouchers at six stations between 6 and 9 a.m. Stations include Civic Center, Powell Street, Montgomery, Embarcadero, 12th Street/Oakland City Center and Downtown Berkeley.

BART spokeswoman Luna Salaver said organizers chose the morning hours to show their appreciation to regular BART riders.

The vouchers will be handed out as commuters leave the station, Salaver said.

Vouchers may be used for a free hot drink, such as coffee, a latte or tea. Additionally, the coupon provides a free half-pound of free trade certified coffee with the purchase of a half-pound of that coffee.

The event will mark the third rider appreciation day this year presented by BART and Tully's. A fourth rider appreciation day is scheduled for December, Salaver said.

The vouchers are worth $10 each, according to organizers. Salaver said BART and Tully's partnered because of their shared commitment to the community.
