Things are getting nasty between competing newspapers on the Peninsula.

There are charges and counter charges involving the examiner, the Daily Post, the San Mateo Daily News and the San Mateo Daily Journal.

The Mercury News reports that the police are now involved.

Examiner employees report they caught a daily post delivery man with about a thousand copies of the examiner and the daily news stuffed in his trunk.

Depending on the circumstances, it could be a violation of the law to take more than 25 copies of a free newspaper.
