Prescribed burn starts in San Jose

A prescribed burn originally scheduled for Monday and today was moved back due to damp conditions created by weekend rain.

The burn is now taking place today and Wednesday, and is already under way, Cal Fire officials said this morning.

The burn will be conducted about 5 miles east of San Jose at Grant Ranch County Park. Smoke from the fire will likely be visible from parts of Santa Clara Valley and San Jose.

Prescribed burns are used to help prevent large wildfires by reducing dry underbrush. They also are useful in increasing biodiversity and enhancing wildlife habitat, fire officials said.
