A male victim who was shot while sitting in a vehicle in Oakland late Friday night died at a hospital this morning, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.

Officers responded around 11:55 p.m. to the intersection of 98th Avenue and International Boulevard on reports of a person shot in a vehicle, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said.

Damion Bouchelion was found suffering an apparent gunshot wound and was transported to Highland Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition and placed on life support, Thomason said.

The hospital notified the coroner's bureau of Bouchelion's death this morning, coroner's bureau investigator Michael Yost said.

Thomason said he does not know Bouchelion's age or city of residence.

Officers discovered that Bouchelion was in a vehicle at the intersection of 105th Avenue and Pontiac Street when an unknown suspect fired into the vehicle, striking Bouchelion, Thomason said.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the police at (510) 238-3821.
