SF stabbing suspect held on $1M bail

SAN FRANCISCO

William Anaya, 42, was found and arrested early Wednesday morning near the location where 55-year-old Garland Alston was found stabbed to death, according to police.

Alston's body was discovered at about 11 p.m. Tuesday in a parking lot near the intersection of Howard and Beale streets, police said.

Both men were reportedly homeless. The medical examiner's office identified Alston on Thursday.

Police and prosecutors have not released a possible motive for the killing.

In court this morning, Anaya postponed his arraignment on a murder charge to allow time for his court-appointed attorney to review the case, and was ordered held on $1 million bail.

He is due back in court Tuesday.
