Ribbon-cutting for renovated nursery center

SAN JOSE, CA

The $4.3 million renovation has been a partnership between the city's Redevelopment Agency and the San Jose Public Library.

It is part of the city's early childhood education initiative to prepare children for academic and social success before they enter kindergarten, according to the redevelopment agency.

City and school officials, parents and early childhood development professionals collaborated on the project.

The final phase of the project entailed replacing the infant facility with an upgraded 1,920-square-foot portable. A new outdoor play area and enclosed play structure were added.

The center, which has been providing affordable childcare for working families since 1916, is located at North Eighth and East Santa Clara streets and is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
