State says no freebies for voting

CALIFORNIA

Initially customers only needed to show an "I voted sticker" to get freebies from Starbucks, Krispy Kreme and Ben and Jerry's.

But under California State Law people cannot be required to show proof of voting. The Secretary of State's Office says offering incentives to vote is also against the law.

Starbucks is offering free 12-ounce coffees. Some Krispy Kreme locations will hand out patriotic doughnuts. Ben and Jerry's ice cream shops will hand out single-scoop cones between 5 and 8 p.m. Tuesday in all time zones.
