A pedestrian opened fire on a patrol car Friday night after officers pulled over for a routine stop, San Jose police Officer Jermaine Thomas said.

Two officers in a patrol car stopped at 9:45 p.m. to question an adult male suspect walking near the intersection of Ninth Street and Keyes Avenue in San Jose when the suspect shot several rounds at the car and fled on foot, Thomas said.

The officers were not injured and the patrol car was not damaged, Thomas said.

Officers called for additional units and searched the area before surrounding a residence on the 1000 block of 10th Street at 11:15 p.m., Thomas said.

The suspect was taken into custody at that time without further incident, Thomas said.
