Missing abalone diver's body identified

SONOMA COUNTY, CA

Su's disappearance prompted multiple searches and dives by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department and the State Parks Department.

Jeremy Stinson, a supervising ranger for the State Parks Department, said Su's body was found around 3 p.m. Monday by a state parks diver about 20 feet below the surface of the water, near where Su was last seen.

The physical description matched that of Su and the wetsuit was similar to that described by his cousin, who was with him when he disappeared.

The coroner's office has since confirmed the body to be Su and was conducting an autopsy this morning to determine the cause of death.

"Abalone diving can be risky, and unfortunately there are several divers every year who die off the Sonoma County coast," Stinson said.
