BART extension backers rejoice

SAN JOSE, CA

Measure B needed a two-thirds majority to pass. The measure currently has 66.78 percent approval, and too few uncounted ballots remain to reverse the outcome.

Election officials must still certify the results by Dec. 2.

Commuters in the area will witness a huge change -- voters also approved a bond measure that will link the state's major cities by high-speed rail.

San Jose's Diridon Station is the planned regional rail hub. Once the new lines are completed, the station could see hundreds of trains each day from seven transit lines -- BART, high-speed rail, VTA light rail, Caltrain, Amtrak and the Altamont and Capitol lines.
