Man suvives for two days in ravine

Christopher Peifer says he swerved to avoid a head-on crash after he saw headlights coming right toward his Honda Civic on Sage Canyon Road in Napa County Monday night.

But Peifer lost control of the car after it skidded on some gravel.

He broke his arm, fractured ribs, and dislocated his prosthetic right leg during the 300-foot plunge.

"Nobody wants to go through anything like that, going down a ravine in the middle of the pitch black, not knowing if help is coming or not, and pretty much it wasn't and I was on my own," Peifer said.

Peifer eventually climbed back to the road and a passing FedEx driver called for help.

He had already lost part of his right leg in another car accident about ten years ago.
