Pet bird killed in house fire

SANTA ROSA

The fire began shortly before 9 p.m. on the first floor of a two-story home in the 4700 block of Montgomery Drive, according to the fire department.

A woman and her two adult children who lived at the home were not there at the time; neighbors reported the fire, the fire department said.

Firefighters were able to control the blaze within about 20 minutes, but not before it caused major heat and smoke damage and killed a pet bird in the home, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
