Man crashes truck into teenage girls

SANTA ROSA, CA

Michael Tweedie, 35, reportedly lost control of a 2000 Ford truck when he hit a parked car while traveling north on Yulupa Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. A front right wheel broke off Tweedie's truck near Hoen Avenue, causing it to crash into a bus stop where a 15- and 13-year-old girl were waiting with their father, according to police.

Tweedie allegedly got out of the truck and fled the area on foot.

Both girls were transported to a local hospital, and one was later air lifted with major injuries to Children's Hospital and Research Center in Oakland, according to police.

Their father was not injured in the crash, police said.

Assisted by witness reports and a Sonoma County Sheriff's Department patrol helicopter, Tweedie was found hiding near Mission Boulevard north of state Highway 12 at about 1 p.m. and arrested for hit-and-run causing serious injury, DUI causing injury and causing serious injury during the commission of a felony.
