How to hang the perfect picture or mirror:
Patch holes:
If there are holes in the wall, cover them first.
- Get a putty knife and scrape away excess paint on wall near holes.
- Use a spackle compound to fill in holes, because it will dry quickly and it's easy to use.
- Spread spackle over holes and even with a spatula.
- It will take two coats of spackle to fill holes evenly and thoroughly. Wait an hour before applying second layer.
- You can avoid making unnecessary holes by using a zip-it to hang pictures or mirrors.
- If you have an existing hole, you can use the zip-it to hang a picture in the hole already made to help avoid making another hole.
- Drill the zip-it directly into the wall and then put in a screw . 1 inch zip-it will hold 50 lbs. of weight, even if you're not in a stud.
- Use a stud finder if you have one. If not, visit your local hardware store and buy an inexpensive one.
- Hold the stud finder against the wall and it will let you know when you've reached a stud.
