Target ad mistake ruled legal

Following a 7 On Your Side report, state and local authorities have ruled a major retailer did nothing wrong when it rescinded an internet offer.

Last month 7 On Your Side heard from parents who tried buying a popular child car seat from Target.com at an 85-percent discount. It was $43 rather than the retail price of $280.

Their order was taken and confirmed, only to be rescinded a few days later. Consumers contacting 7 On Your Side felt like it was a potential bait and switch.

Contra Costa County and state investigators have ruled it was a one-time mistake and found no pattern of similar errors, and mistakes are allowed by law.

By the way Target offered some consumers a $25 gift certificate for their inconvenience.
