Witnesses reported seeing the driver, 57-year-old Pacifica resident Louis James Henry, make an unsafe maneuver around 9:30 p.m. at West 39th Avenue and Edison Street, where the victim was in a crosswalk, San Mateo police Lt. Mike Brunicardi said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with major head trauma, Brunicardi said.
Henry remained at the scene and was allegedly found to be under the influence of an unidentified drug, Brunicardi said.
Henry was booked into San Mateo County Jail for driving under the influence and reckless driving, both felony charges, Brunicardi said.
