Small plane crashes near Dumbarton

A man escaped without injury after a small plane he piloted crashed just east of the Dumbarton Bridge in unincorporated Alameda County near Newark Friday night, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

The crash was reported at about 10:25 p.m. in the marshes east of the bridge, a fire dispatcher said.

The pilot, the sole occupant of the plane, was uninjured in the crash, according to the dispatcher, who said members of the fire department, the California Highway Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard were assisting at the scene of the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash, according to CHP Officer Marc Johnston.
