Pinole woman charged with mother's murder

PINOLE, CA

Police found a note inside the home that indicated that Kimberly Petretti had intended to kill herself after she killed her mother, but "the suicide part didn't happen," Jewett said.

Police received a call at about 7:50 a.m. reporting a problem in a home in the 4000 block of Marcas Street, police said.

When officers arrived, they found Kimberly Petretti sitting on the curb outside the house. She told the officers to go inside, police said.

Officers found 62-year-old Claudia Petretti dead inside the house.

Jewett said there was no evidence to suggest that Claudia Petretti knew about the alleged murder-suicide plan before she was killed.

"She was watching TV and playing solitaire," Jewett said. "So it's not like she was preparing herself to die."

She was sitting facing the television, but appears to have turned halfway around, which is when her daughter allegedly shot her in the face, Jewett said.

Police found an eviction notice that said the two women had to be out of the house that day, police said.

Jewett said that at least part of the motivation for the shooting appears to be related to financial difficulties, but police are continuing to investigate the case.

Claudia Petretti worked, but Kimberly Petretti did not have a job. She was supposed to be taking care of the household, but the house was a mess, Jewett said.

Kimberly Petretti has been charged with murder with an enhancement for the use of an assault rifle. She was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon.
