Police try to ID woman found naked, unconscious

The Alameda County coroner's bureau has not yet determined a cause of death, or located a next of kin for the woman found naked and unconscious in Oakland Monday night, a deputy said Saturday.

Deputy Sheriff J. Piyamanothamkul said that because a cause of death was not immediately apparent, the coroner's bureau must send out samples for additional testing. Results usually take several weeks.

The office has also not located any family members to notify, and therefore cannot make the woman's name public.

The woman was found beneath a freeway overpass in the 3300 block of East 8th Street near Fruitvale Avenue around 4 p.m. Monday and transported to the hospital, Oakland police said. She was pronounced dead at 5:19 p.m.

The Oakland Police Department's homicide unit is "actively investigating" the suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman's death, spokesman Jeff Thomason said. They have no new information since searching the area Monday night, he said.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call police at (510) 777-3211.
