SJ police officer shoots, wounds man

SAN JOSE, CA

Police say the man, who is expected to survive, attacked the officer early Sunday after the officer used a Taser on a woman who was fighting with several people.

It is the second officer-involved shooting in San Jose in days -- on Friday police say a man shot himself after a six-hour standoff at a gas station. Police say the man, Curtis Burleson, had grabbed an officer's gun after a struggle and fired shots at the officer, missing him. A second officer fired at Burleson as he escaped into the station.

The unidentified officer involved in Sunday's shooting is on paid administrative leave while the homicide unit investigates. The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, the internal affairs unit of the police department and the independent police auditor will monitor.
